Your child can't replay today's lesson
Every parent has experienced it.
A child comes home after missing a day of school and says, "What did I miss?"
The honest answer is: probably more than they realize.
A lesson can be retaught. An assignment can be made up. But the classroom discussions, hands-on activities, group projects, questions, friendships and moments of discovery that happen throughout the day can't truly be recreated.
That's why attendance matters more than ever.
When students are in school every day, they stay connected to their learning, their teachers and their classmates. They build routines, gain confidence and continue moving forward with the rest of their class. Consistent attendance helps students develop the habits that lead to success not only in school, but in college, careers and life.
Even missing a day here and there can make it harder to keep pace. Students often spend extra time catching up instead of moving ahead with new learning. Over time, those missed opportunities can add up, making school more challenging than it needs to be.
In Spring Branch ISD (SBISD), we're committed to ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed. Every day students walk through our doors, they have access to exceptional teachers, counselors, librarians, nurses, advanced academics, Career and Technical Education pathways, fine arts, athletics, special education services, multilingual programs, technology and countless opportunities to discover their passions.
These are the advantages of a strong public school education.
Our schools are uniquely designed to serve all students and provide a wide range of academic, social and emotional supports under one roof. Whether a student needs enrichment, extra help, career exploration or specialized services, SBISD is equipped to meet students where they are and help them reach their full potential.
Many families may not realize that attendance also affects how Texas funds public schools.Texas public schools receive a significant portion of their funding based on daily student attendance.
That means every day your child is present not only benefits their own education, it also helps support the teachers, classrooms, programs, technology, transportation, safety measures and student services that benefit every learner across our district.
The funding matters because students matter. Still, this isn't really about dollars.
It's about making sure Every Child has every opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.
Of course, children should stay home when they're sick or when health and safety require it. But when they're healthy and ready to learn, there's no better place to be than in school.
Every day brings a new lesson. A new friendship. A new challenge. A new opportunity.
And those opportunities are difficult to replace once they're missed.
